Fullmetal Alchemist and dub haters

Sun Nov 7, 2004, 12:28 AM
I hope you all watched the premiere on Adult Swim tonight! It's the greatest series I've seen in years so if you haven't checked it out it re-airs on Thursday. As for the wave of FMA fans who are probably shitting in their diapers about THE DUB I direct you here

[link]

I swear the dub was great, people just like bitching for the sake of looking like they're elitists which is scary because who wants to be an overweight anime fan with bad acne who's 40 and lives in their parents' basement? People who complain about dubs obviously haven't been into anime for very long since they don't know what a REAL terrible dub is

And before I have people getting up on my ass because I know like half of you are looking around all paranoid like "is she talking about me?" "I've been into anime for a long time dubz sux0rs! Subs give me the true experience! I have a small penis!" just sit back and think about your actions. Have you seen Viz and ADV dubs from like 10 years ago? No? Then be quiet and read the article. Whining about dubs does not make you look cool, I swear I can't stand going to anime clubs simply because people who are like all greasy haired and weigh like 300 pounds complain about dubs, I mean complaining about them doesn't instantly make those 300 pounds and bad skin go away now does it?

Seriously if anyone deserves to be an elitist it's me. I could be all like well AH'VE been into anime for 10 years so I'm better than you! Subtitles are god! I hate every company who ever thinks about trying to liscense my precious anime so I can god forbid not download it anymore! I hate the idea of AMERICANS bringing over my precious Japanese anime over here! Americans is too stupid for anime! I would rather sell my first born child than have anime be successful here in America because I enjoy getting 9th generation fansubs and bootleg merchandise for outrageous prices!

But you see I'm not an elitist. I admit I did go through that stage and I went through my DUBZES SUX stage. I work at Suncoast and every time I see a group of 14 year olds thrilled to buy the latest anime and manga it makes me so happy. It warms my heart to be able to see these kids having something I didn't have. When I was their age anime and manga was hard to come by but nowadays you can pick it up at Wal Mart. I'm so happy to see the next generation getting to into anime. If it wasn't for American companies and the folks at Adult Swim you would still be paying horrendous inflated prices on Hong Kong bootleg and 9th generation fansubs.

Anime isn't some special godly thing that should be horded, share the wealth. So what if Naruto gets liscensed and 14 year olds get into your precious complex ninja show that you know, was aimed at 14 year old boys, not 40 year old sweaty Americans. Share the wealth and enjoyment.

You know, whether you want to believe it or not, this post you made is very hypocritical. You talk about how you're not elitist, but then you go and make fun of all the people who act that way, and even go as far as stereotyping people, in an attempt to somehow logically distance yourself from them and have the "right attitude" towards the way they act. And seriously, if you don't see that acting that way is in itself "elitist," then maybe you might want to take a look at the definition of the word. I know that more than half of this post was in jest, and I'm sure you weren't serious by most of the things you said, but sometimes you really can come off as someone who acts like you're better than everyone else--- exactly the type of person you're belittling. So maybe you just need to sit back sometime and let people be who they want to be, it's not too hard. Two negatives don't make a positive, that only happens in mathematical equations, not in life or people or anything else. I was really trying to hold back my opinion on this, but I think it just had to be said. From one friend to another, and maybe someone just a bit more mature, you might just want to think about what you have to say before you say it. Oh and I KNOW it's YOUR journal, and you have the RIGHT to say anything you want to say, but since it's public, I guess that gives me the right to give you my opinion, doesn't it? I hope you don't take all of this the wrong way, I just wanted to get it off my chest.

As far as the topic of subs vs. dubs go, some subs are better than dubs, and vice versa. I've never said one will always be better than the other, but I truly believe that up until the last 10 years of professional anime dubbing, there really hasn't been many quality dubs, series-wise. It is beginning to change, yes, and for that I am very thankful. It will give my eyes and brain a chance to relax when I watch anime. I will try to start taping Full-Metal Alchemist on CN, I am looking forward to watching it.
i like dub :<
Ima slow reader, so dub makes it easier on me, i usually end up missing whatsjust happned on the screen when im reading the subs X3

dude why do you always have to criticise me? Most of the post was a joke. If you think I think I'm better than everybody else than why bother hanging around with me? You're always way too harsh sometimes I just don't want to know what I'm doing wrong. I've had a horrible week and I ran out of my antidepressants about a week ago, now is not the time to hear from a friend that I'm a bad person. Sure, I'm being hypersensitive but dude, sometimes you really need to be a little more considerate when talking to a person you consider your friend

Ok, so you were venting, I understand. I wasn't trying to sound so harsh, I really wasn't, you'll have to trust me. All I was trying to do was make you open your eyes a bit wider to the whole situation. I never said you're a bad person; in fact I think you're a wonderful person! If I didn't like you, I wouldn't have tried so hard to remain friends with you. Look, I'm sorry what I wrote upset you, but I just wanted to let you know my opinion on the whole thing. I think if I just bottled it up and didn't tell you how I felt then it would have just gotten worse. When it comes to my personal feelings, I'm very confrontational, that's just the kind of person I am. Everyone that knows me will tell you the same. Please don't take it so harshly, ok?
You really crack me up. And you're basically right, I love you. lol.
Mm, I agree with that very much. Kids who are just getting into anime are too involved in what's new about it (the language, for instance) to appreciate what's good about it. I used to love listening to the original Japanese dubs... until I got tired of the language and realized that the English dubs are *gasp!* not that bad! Actually, nowadays I enjoy the English dubs more, not really because the Japanese language doesn't impress me as much as it used to, but lately companies have been really diligent on directing the voice actors well.
yeah I totally agree, I mean these days I'm not at all impressed with Japanese voices, after a while they all just sort of blend in with the annoying high pitched girls and the token deep voiced badass guy

That is one of the main reasons why I got tired of the language; all the girls insist on making their voices as high as possible. The nicest, sweetest girls become so fake sounding that I roll my eyes to it. It really ruins it for me! It's fine for Japan because that is what their culture conforms them to sound, but in America, nice, sweet girls don't sound like that. I'm glad that English dubs are good enough to realize this and hire girls who can fit the American standard profile, and not pick a high-pitched annoying girl. For the most part, anyway.
I prefere Subs on My computer, that way i can pause it and take as long as i want. For instance Naruto, i love that series and i also love the voices, and i get to hear the authentic voices which i also veiw as a plus ( i havent been into anime as long as yall so the voices arent annoying me yet :XD: ). And Im kinda into American Dubing the Anime shows, but not tha big of a fan, espically if I have heard the character's voices in japanese already. but i guess i would say im bootleg kind of guy, I dont really buy manga or watch anime on TV, i prefer it downloaded on my computer. :), but im glad that more and more people are getting into anime, some of my close friends like Naruto too, and i didnt even know they knew what anime was. well thats my thought
